ABLES - The Glen Literacy Scheme:

Bishopstown Literacy Scheme:

• Any subject an individual needs help with

National Adult Literacy Agency:

• Literacy awareness training for groups and organisations
• Newsletters, Journals and bulletins (available to NALA members)
• A Resource Room, for access to books, tuition materials, etc
• In-service training for VEC adult literacy services
• Support for the development of intensive literacy programmes, workplace literacy programmes, family learning and other adult literacy initiatives

Read Write Now Adult Literacy Scheme: Ballyphehane/Togher

• Basic reading, writing, spelling and computers on an individual and group basis
• Study skills NCVA/FETAC

Write On - Mayfield Literacy Scheme:

• Communication Skills in Basic Reading, Writing and Numeracy
• One-to-one and group sessions
• Family learning (FETAC)

Write Together/ Cork Northside Adult/ Literacy Scheme:

• Groups focus on developing reading and writing skills
• Building confidence
• Looking up books on health / social welfare entitlements
• Writing letters to government departments
• Reading local newspapers and writing on events
• Expression of ideas and feelings, both verbally and in writing

Department of Social & Family Affairs:

• Do you want to go to school / college but worried you will lose your social welfare payments?
• Back to Education Programme allows you to go to school / college and keep your payments

• Vocational Training Opportunities Scheme (VTOS) available for those who are on benefits

• Help and support available to adult students for study and research
• Support for adults to develop their interests and skills through reading
• Lending Library and Reference Library provide information on many subjects

• Teaching of adults and children with learning disabilities, such as dyslexia

• Various courses from as little as £1 per session
• Personal development / parenting course
• Support for women in separation and domestic violence

St. Francis' Training Centre:

• Provide Junior Cert and NCVA Level 1 courses for youth (from 12 years) and adults.

Vocational Education Committee:

• Adult Community-based Lifelong Learning centres throughout the city provide day courses according to the needs of the local community
• Progress can be made from these courses to higher education
• Home School Liaison Service aims to develop co-operation between parents and teachers.
